Driver killed after pickup drives into ditch, flips along IH-10 near Rose City early Sunday

The driver was taken by ambulance to a Southeast Texas hospital where he was pronounced dead.

ROSE CITY, Texas — A Houston man died early Sunday morning following a single vehicle wreck near Rose City.

Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety are investigating the wreck which happened around 12:30 a.m. along Interstate 10 near mile marker 856, according to DPS spokesperson Lt. Chuck Havard. 

Troopers believe a 2010 Dodge Ram was going westbound on the Interstate 10 service road when the driver left the roadway, overcorrected and hit a sign which caused the Dodge to roll over. The driver was later identified as 38-year-old Daniel Chavez Reyes. 

Reyes was taken by ambulance to a Southeast Texas hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Justice of the Peace Ben Collins ordered an autopsy. An investigation into the crash in underway.

From a Texas Department of Public safety release: 

ORANGE COUNTY – Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers are investigating a one-vehicle fatality crash on Interstate Highway 10 service road, .20 miles west of Rose City. 

The preliminary crash investigation indicates on Jan. 29, 2023, at approximately 12:30 a.m., a 2010 Dodge Ram was traveling westbound, left the roadway, overcorrected, struck a sign causing the Dodge to roll over.  

The driver, Daniel Chavez Reyes, 38, of Houston, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries and was later pronounced deceased by Hospital Staff.  

This is an ongoing investigation, and there is no additional information available for release at this time.
