Man hit, injured by truck on US 96 Saturday, investigation underway

The driver of the truck was not injured during the crash.

JASPER COUNTY, Texas — Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety are investigating after a man was hit and injured by a truck on Highway 96.

It happened on Saturday, October 22, 2022, shortly before 4 p.m. Troopers believe a 2020 Chevrolet box truck was traveling south when a person entered the roadway and was hit by the truck, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety release.

The driver of the truck was not injured during the crash.

The person hit by the truck was taken to a Houston hospital to be treated for his injuries, according to the release. The seriousness of his injuries is currently unknown.

From a Texas Department of Public Safety release: 

JASPER COUNTY – Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers are investigating an auto-pedestrian crash that occurred today, Oct. 22, 2022 on U.S. Highway 96.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates at approximately 3:55 p.m., a 2020 Chevrolet box truck was traveling south on U.S. 96 when a pedestrian entered the roadway and was struck by the Chevrolet.

The driver of the Chevrolet is identified as Miguel Rojas, 27, from Groves was not injured during the crash.

The pedestrian is identified as Benjamin Lee, 23, from Jasper was transported to a Houston hospital for treatment.

This crash remains under investigation. Additional information is not available at this time.
