Friday morning wreck claims lives of two Tyler County residents along U.S. 69 near Ivanhoe

The cause of the crash, which troopers were dispatched to at about 11:30 a.m., is still under investigation.

IVANHOE — A crash along U.S. Highway 69 near Ivanhoe claimed the lives of two Tyler County residents Friday morning.

Tommy Bailey, 58, of Woodville, and his passenger, Heather McGough, 33, of Warren, were both pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Trisher Ford according to a release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Bailey was driving a 2004 Dodge "passenger vehicle" north on U.S. 69 when he pulled onto the shoulder and attempted to make a U-turn into the path of a 2017 Buick "passenger vehicle" that was following behind him the release said.

Troopers were dispatched to the wreck at about 11:30 a.m. the release said.

The Buick, driven by William Tinkle, 71, of Beaumont, struck the driver's side of Bailey's Dodge causing both cars to travel into a ditch were they came to rest the release said.

Both Tinkle and a passenger in his car refused treatment at the scene.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation according to the release.
