Dump truck changes lanes, sideswipes three motorcyclists on I-10 in Orange County

The three motorcyclists were taken to St. Elizabeth hospital. One had serious injuries.

ORANGE COUNTY, Texas — A dump truck sideswiped three motorcyclists on I-10 in Orange County Saturday morning.

The accident happened at 11:30 a.m. May 9 on the feeder road of I-10, Texas DPS Sgt. Stephanie Davis said in a news release.

Texas DPS troopers found in their investigation that a 2001 Peterbuilt dump truck was traveling eastbound in the inside lane of the feeder road when the driver changed lanes unsafely, hitting three motorcycles.

A 45-year-old Silsbee man, the driver of a 2014 black Harley Davidson motorcycle, was taken to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries. A 54-year-old Vidor man, the driver of a 2017 white Harley Davidson motorcycle, and a 49-year-old Lumberton man, the driver of the 2009 gray Harley Davidson motorcycle, were both taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth with minor injuries.

The dump truck driver, a 55-year-old man from California, was also taken to a hospital for minor injures. Troopers issued him a traffic citation for changing lanes when unsafe.

The crash investigation is still ongoing, but no additional details are available at this time.
