CHAMBERS COUNTY, Texas — Chambers County residents will have to wait approximately two months to use FM 3180 north and southbound lanes starting this weekend.
FM 3180 at Interstate 10 will be closed until August 2020 due to construction. Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne made the announcement Friday on the county’s Facebook page.
FM 3180 crossing over Interstate 10 will be closed for approximately 60 days, according to the post. Sheriff Hawthorne explained the changes in traffic flow in a short video.
“It should take at least 60 days to build the bridge properly to bring the interstate over 3180 and then rebuild 3180. They have assured us by August 5th, or at least somewhere in there, or at least before school starts, we’ll be able to use 3180, coming from the south or coming from the north to traverse the interstate,” Sheriff Hawthorne said.
If you’re headed to Houston, from Beaumont, Winnie or Anahuac, Sheriff Hawthorne suggests drivers find an alternative route. Drivers may use FM 565 or SH 99 as detours, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
There will be traffic and congestion, he said. If you do have the ability to take Highway 90 or an alternative route, you’re suggested to do so.
According to Sheriff Hawthorne:
- People who live south of the interstate will have to find an alternative route to SH 146, and FM 565.
- Drivers who live in Mont Belvieu will have to find an alternative route to FM 565 or SH 146 to come down to Cove or Beach City.
