At the beginning of the night only two teams remained from Southeast Texas in the Texas high school football playoffs, and both would come out on top. West Orange-Stark and Newton will continue their quest for a State Championship as they both advance to the State Semifinals.
For West Orange-Stark it was another close defensive struggle, as they beat a tough Salado team 14-0. This coming on the heels of only a two point win against Madisonville last week. The Mustangs just keep on finding ways to win as they advance to their fourth straight Semifinal, in hopes to make it four State Finals appearances and add a third State Championship.
Newton had an easier time in their game, beating Waskom, 45 to 6. Newton gets revenge after losinng to Waskom in the 2014 State Championship game, and advance to the Semi-Final round for the first time since that year. Newton is trying to add their fourth State Championship in football. Their last one coming in 2005.
West Orange-Stark will move on to face Wimberley (12-1). The date and time is yet to be announced. Newton will take on Boling (9-3) at 7:30 p.m. at Texan Drive Stadium in Porter.
