SAGUACHE COUNTY, Colo. — The body of a man reported missing after hiking in the Kit Carson Peak/Challenger Point area was found, according to Custer County Search and Rescue.

On Saturday, 41-year-old Lt. Colonel USAF Dan Wallick’s body was located by a Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control helicopter. However, because of difficult terrain and deteriorating weather conditions, the search teams were re-inserted on Sunday to access and recover Wallick, officials said.

Wallick was reported missing July 24.

The Colorado Springs Gazette reported that Lt. Col. Dan Wallick texted his family from the summit of Kit Carson Peak on Wednesday but had not been heard from since.

The Air Force said Wallick was assigned to Schriever Air Force Base east of Colorado Springs and works in missile defense.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
