BEAUMONT, Texas – For the second time this season, Lamar University senior Marie Lund was named the Southland Conference Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Lund was a force on both ends of the field for the Cardinals, as LU clinched at least a share of the conference regular-season title with a 1-0 win at Houston Baptist and a 3-0 victory at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Defensively, Lund helped anchor a defense that registered its seventh and eighth shutouts of the season, setting a school record. Offensively, she scored two goals in the 3-0 win at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Lund, who also won the award in September, has 11 points on five goals and one assist this season.

The Cardinals (14-3-1 overall, 9-1-0 Southland) close out the regular season when they host McNeese at 7 p.m. Friday at the LU Soccer Complex. A win or tie would give the Cardinals the regular-season title outright. A win by McNeese means the Cardinals and Cowgirls would share the regular-season crown and give McNeese the No. 1 seed for next week’s Southland Conference Tournament in Corpus Christi, Texas.
