BEAUMONT, Texas — The Wildcats advanced to state for the first time in school history after defeating Pollok Central, 12-2 in game two of the Class 3A regional finals on Friday night.
Justin Herriage was the winning pitching after pitching five-plus innings, before being replaced by Tyler Brown to close out the game.
The Wildcats offense came out firing on all cylinders and jumped to an early 5-0 lead until the Bulldogs came clawing back after Dylan Cloonan roped a two-run single off Herriage to close the gap within three in the bottom of the third.
The Wildcats would immediately bounce back after a three-run fourth and later a four-run sixth to bring the mercy rule within reach.
After replacing Herriage in the sixth, Brown quickly shut out the Bulldogs to end the game and clinch the Class 3A regional championship.
