WOS Mustangs march onto state for 4th year in a row

The WO Stark Mustangs gave up some big plays early, but then created some big plays of their own to knock off Wimberley 30-21 in the state 4A Division II semifinals Friday night at Katy.

Trailing 14-13 in the 2nd quarter, QB Chaka Watson ripped off a 99 yard TD run to give their Mustangs their first lead of the game 20-14.

Then Jarron Morris fielded a punt inside his 25, retreated back to the 15 yard line and took it 77 yards to make it 27-14 WOS.

Wimberley (13-2) got on the board one more time on a 39 yard TD pass from Jo Jo Weeks to Gavin Martinez to make it 27-21 at the half, but the Texans were shut out the rest of the way by the Chain Gang defense.

With their 40th win in a row, the Mustangs became the ninth team in Texas HS Football history to post a winning streak of at least 40 wins.

WOS (14-0) will now look to make it three state titles in a row, when they face Texarkana Pleasant Grove (15-0) Friday Dec 22 at 3 pm at AT&T Stadium Arlington.
