For the past seven years the newton eagles have dominated their district and they're expected to do just that once again.

The back-to-back State Champions have won 44-straight district games heading into this year, and should extend that number to 49 according to Dave Campbell's Texas Football.

The eagles, who are now led by Drew Johnston after the passing of his legendary father W.T., are heavy favorites in 12-3A-DII, but are not ranked number one in the state. That honor goes to Canadian, the same team Newton defeated in the State Championship game last December in Arlington.

Following newton are Corrigan-Camden, Anderson-Shiro, Hemphill, New Waverly and Kountze.

One thing of note, Kountze has a new coach this year, and some new faces. I'd expect the lions to be in the hunt for a playoff spot.
