East Chambers' Jacoby Perrault is the 409Sports Athlete of The Week

Multisport start Jacoby Perrault continues to lead Buccaneers

WINNIE, Texas — In a battle for first place in district 22-3A last night, East Chambers was deadlocked with Orangefield at halftime, then Jacoby Perrault made his presence felt.

"Really after the first half my shot started falling more. We was getting to the rim, we was getting turnovers and steals. That was really helping us get the momentum back on our side too."

Head Coach Todd Sutherland says while Pearrault is an offensive power, it's his defense that really makes a difference.

"The thing about Jacoby is he's good offensively, but he's very good defensively. Most people don't give him credit for that and that's what it was."

Perrault is wrapping up a remarkable career at East Chambers that also saw him lead the Buccaneers football team for four seasons at quarterback. He tries to carry that experience over to the court.

"Just trying to play tough through physical contact. Watch where defenders are as a quarterback. Reading the field, reading the court. It helps pick a part a defense."

Southerland says he brings that quarterback mentality to the Runnin' Bucs.

"Jacoby brings leadership. He plays extremely hard. He's unselfish and his work ethic is really second to none. His leadership, I mean we've had several games where it wasn't going good and he's policing them. I'm trying to also, but he's the one getting them going."
