The senior inside linebacker helped lead the pirates to victory in their district 22-5A opener against the Central Jaguars with 12 tackles and 3 sacks.

"Yeah I like hitting people, making stops," said Ciccio.

The linebacker was flying all over the field in Tuesday night’s game coming up with some big stops

"Our coverages were different where I was mirroring the quarterback a little bit," said Ciccio. “He can move. He’s a good athlete, shout out to that guy, he’s real good. But yeah like I said it’s a team game. We did what we were supposed to and we got him.”

For Vidor head coach Jeff Mathews, he believes the defense guys need a little credit.

“So many times the offensive guys get recognized but Joey Ciccio is a special player,” said Mathews. “He and his brother both. Joey is a coach on the field you know. He’s a guy that watches film. He can give you the scouting report probably better than I can. He knows what the opponents going to do. He knows what they are going to run before they run it a lot of times. He can put everybody in motion, put everyone where they are supposed to be.”

Speaking of watching film. Ciccio has already forgotten about Tuesday’s performance. He is moving forward.

“Oh yeah we’re good,” said Ciccio. “Already watched film for two hours today. I’m good to go. We’re good. We’re ready for Ozen.”

Congradulations to Joey Ciccio, of the Vidor pirates our Wendy’s 12Star Athlete of the Week.
