West Orange pet owner wants the city to take action after her cat was killed

A West Orange pet owner wants to know why someone shot her cat over the weekend.

WEST ORANGE, Texas — A West Orange pet owner wants to know why someone shot her cat over the weekend.

She believes someone thought it was a stray. Laura Bruce is calling on the city to take action.

Bruce is still trying to get over the loss of her three year old cat Maurice.

"We heard multiple shots," said Bruce.

Bruce said Sunday, while in her West Orange home, she heard three shots outside.

She rushed Maurice to the Foskey Veterinary Clinic in Pinehurst.

The report done by a veterinarian at the clinic found that the cat's left leg had been shot. The only option was to put him down.

"Just because you don't care about the animal, doesn't mean someone else doesn't," said Bruce.

According to the West Orange Police Department, people are not allowed to discharge a firearm within city limits.

Bruce believes people are getting frustrated with the amount strays and are choosing to take matters into their own hands.

"Let's get something going," said Bruce.

Bruce plans on going to the city council to address the problem on strays in the area.
