VERIFY | Is 'The Lights Fest' actually coming to Beaumont?

'The Lights Fest' is an event that’s been trending all over social media.

BEAUMONT, Texas — The Lights Fest is an event that’s been trending all over social media.

There has been much excitement and interest from the community about wanting to attend the event but there's also been questions about whether or not the event would be held in Beaumont.

According to the event website, the festival is hosted by Viive Events LLC. It promises a family friendly, environmentally safe festival where people can take their families to light a lantern and cast their worries and dreams into the sky.

We spoke to Joe Condina, the Fire Marshal at the Beaumont Fire Department about the event.

"What they're planning hasn't been approved," Condina said.

Condina says the issue is not with the event itself, but the lanterns that would be cast away.

"The lanterns are prone to just not knowing where they are headed because of wind directions. They are made of a paper product and then have flames within it," Condina said.

He said because of these hazards, the lanterns are not allowed in city limits. So we can in fact verify that this event will not be coming to Beaumont.

But online, the Light Fest event still shows an event in Beaumont, but also shows in the event is being held at the Houston Raceway in Baytown.

Liz Fredrichs, President and CEO, of the Better Business Bureau of Southeast Texas, who said people considering attending the Light Fest should use caution.

Viive Events LLC has a history of complaints, Fredrichs said, and an “F” rating with the BBB nationally.

If you’re planning on buying tickets, Fredrichs recommends that you purchase the Refund Protection Plan to ensure you’re covered if the event is canceled.
