Trial begins for Beaumont man accused of shooting sister-in-law in 2018

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Texas — A jury is being selected Monday afternoon in the trial of a Beaumont man who police said shot a woman last year.

Beaumont Police said Demarcus Antwon Chatmon, 39, of Beaumont, allegedly shot his sister-in-law in 2018 during a disturbance in the 700 block of San Jacinto.

She survived her injuries and police charged him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The trial will take place before Judge Raquel West in the 252nd District Court.
