GALVESTON, Texas — Coast Guard crews rescued a 57-year-old man from a cruise ship about 66 miles from Galveston on Monday night. 

Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a request from the cruise ship Carnival Dream to help with a passenger in need of medical care according to a Coast Guard news release. 

Watchstanders spoke the the duty flight surgeon, who recommended the medevac. 

An Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew was launched to the scene. The crew hoisted and took the patient and physician from the ship to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at Scholes International Airport according to the release.
