Orange picks new mayor as Southeast Texas votes in municipal, school board elections

In Orange voters unanimously chose Orange city council member Larry Spears, Jr., as their new mayor awarding him 79% of the vote.

BEAUMONT — Voters in Southeast Texas chose a new mayor along with new council members and school trustees Saturday during municipal and school board elections.

In Orange voters unanimously chose Orange city council member Larry Spears, Jr., as their new mayor awarding him 79% of the vote.

His opponent, Charles Thomas, who received 21% of the vote, has alleged that Spears violated election rules.

In Jefferson County voters picked Micah Mosely, with 32% of the vote, to join the at-large seat on the Nederland ISD school board.

Brandon Bartie, Debra Ambroise, Lloyd Reado Johnson won at-large seats on the Port Arthur school board.

In the China City Council race John Rooney, with 82% of the vote, will won the at-large place one spot while Matthew Lopez won the at-large place 2 spot with 81% of the vote.

In other Orange County races Angela Jordan won the Vidor City Council ward two race with 56% of the vote and Jane Hill won the ward six seat with 51%.

Lucy Fields won the Bridge City council place six seat with 63% of the vote and Patty Collins won the Bridge City ISD place one seat with 64%.

In Jasper Raymond Hopson took the city council district four seat with 73% of the vote and incumbents Lequin Hilderbrant and Van Cammack held on to their seats on the Jasper school board.

In Kirbyville Preston Williams won 73% of the vote to win the city council place five seat.
