Nederland Police investigating a string of break-ins

In each case, a firearm was stolen.

NEDERLAND, Texas — Car theft has affected a number of people in Nederland after a string of break-ins.

Since Sunday, three cars have been broken into. Two were reported on Elgin Avenue and one was reported on Memphis Avenue.

In each case, a gun was stolen. Nederland Police Chief Gary Porter says this can only make a bad situation worse.

"If you leave your handgun in your car, the odds are, we've gone from a vehicle burglar who's not armed to a vehicle burglar who is armed," Chief Porter said.

It’s something Nederland resident Cody Robbins knows all too well.

"We had went inside and came back outside, and within a 10 minute span my pistol was stolen out of my truck," Robbins said.

Thieves also broke into the truck belonging to Nederland resident Kasey Sloan’s husband's truck.

"My husband went out to go to work this morning and when he got to his truck he realized something wasn't right and his center console was popped," Sloan said.
