I-10 westbound reopened, two people seriously injured in multiple vehicle crash near Taylor's Bayou

Thomas and Marilyn Allen of Florida were taken to St. Elizabeth with serious injuries.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Texas — All lanes of I-10 have reopened and two people have been taken to the hospital after DPS was called to a multiple-vehicle crash around 4:30 p.m. near Taylor's Bayou. 

Early reports indicate a tractor semi-trailer was headed westbound on I-10, followed by an RV, when the tractor trailer slowed down due to traffic congestion according to a DPS news release. 

The RV apparently rear-ended the tractor trailer according to the release. 

The RV's trailer became dislodged and came to rest in the roadway. 

Thomas Allen, 68, of Florida, was driving the RV and was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth with serious injuries. His wife, Marilyn Allen, 67, was taken by medical helicopter, also with serious injuries. 

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Dauphin Lereste of Florida, was not injured according to the release.

At approximately 4:30p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) received a report of a multiple vehicle crash on Interstate 10, near Taylor’s Bayou, in Jefferson County.

Initial reports indicate that a 2016 Kenworth truck tractor semi-trailer was traveling westbound on Interstate 10 followed by a 2004 Fleetwood recreational vehicle towing a motorcycle and passenger vehicle.  The driver of the 18-wheeler slowed due to traffic congestion and was rear-ended by the recreational vehicle (RV).  Upon impact, the RV’s trailer became dislodged and came to rest in the roadway.

The driver of the RV, 68-year-old Thomas Allen of Florida, was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries.

The wife of Thomas Allen, 67-year-old Marilyn Allen, was transported by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth with serious injuries.

The driver of the commercial motor vehicle, Dauphin Lereste, 36, of Florida was not injured in the crash.

All westbound traffic lanes of Interstate 10 were closed for approximately an hour, but have since reopened to traffic.

There are no additional details to be released.
