Hardin County deputies are investigating what appears to have been an accidental shooting Christmas night.
Chief Deputy Kenny Davenport told 12News a man told investigators his wife was shot in the shoulder when he was handing her his AR-15. The husband said that apparently the firearm's strap caused his wife to drop it, and it went off wounding her.
She was taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth by medical helicopter. Davenport says the 28-year-old woman is expected to survive.
The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. Thursday on Happy Valley Road, which is off Work Road and FM 418.
