WATCH: Video shows the impact of Imelda's flooding rains in Beaumont

Videos shot by 12News and KHOU reporters show torrential rains and flooded roads in the Beaumont area due to Imelda.

Rescue efforts continued into Thursday evening in and around Beaumont, which was hit hard Wednesday night and Thursday by flooding from Tropical Depression Imelda. 

By 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening Beaumont Police anounced via twitter that rescue operations in the city had been suspended until 7:30 a.m. Friday morning.

Police noted in the tweet that rescue crews would only respond to life-threatening situations.

Beaumont police said on Twitter early Thursday that they've had requests for more than 250 water rescues and 270 evacuations, while Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne told The Associated Press that the town of Winnie "looks like a lake."

Thursday night is expected to bring an additional 1 to 2 inches of rain over the area after it was inundated the night before with up to 40 inches in some areas.

Two deaths were attributed to the storm one in Jefferson County when a man was electroucted and one in Houston when a man was pulled from a submerged car.

Video and photos shot by 12News and KHOU reporters as well as others show torrential rains and flooded roads in the area. In this video, water rushes over Interstate 10 in west Jefferson County and overwhelms cars along the interstate between Winnie and Beaumont.

Surface roads are also impassable in Beaumont.

Rains pounded Winnie, where drivers were stranded.

Twitter user @heartsforchenIe shared this video on Sept. 19, 2019, writing, "Imelda is hitting (Winnie) harder than Harvey did, we’re still trying to get help."

Imelda's deluge also struck Port Neches.

A 12News reporter waded through floodwaters in Beaumont after being rescued.

In Kingwood, a KHOU reporter captured video of a man rescuing a baby goat.

12News and KHOU reporters also shared photos of the flooding on social media.

Flooding from Imelda blocks almost every exit in Beaumont.

Still, some drivers took to the roads despite warnings from emergency officials.

These videos were shot by reporters and shared on Twitter, and they show Imelda's rains flooding the Beaumont area overnight. 

Two 12News journalists stopped to help stranded motorists.

The 12News team had to evacuate their building due to the floods.

At least one local resident tried traverse the floodwaters with a kayak.

A viewer sent us this video from Central Gardens flooding.
