Volunteers paint blue crosses for child abuse awareness

Each cross symbolizes a child who died from abuse or neglect in Texas in 2018.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Volunteers gathered Monday morning in downtown Beaumont to paint 211 crosses to place in the ground.

Provost Umphrey Law Firm employees helped CASA of Southeast Texas to paint the crosses for a display outside CASA's office on Calder Avenue.

Each cross symbolizes a child who died from abuse or neglect in Texas in 2018.

The crosses will be on display downtown throughout the month of April, which is National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

CASA of Southeast Texas also plans to hold a community vigil on April 1.

For more information about CASA or National Child Abuse Prevention month, please call the CASA office at (409) 832-2272.
