Toddler that nearly drowned Sunday in Port Neches dies at hospital

The toddler was originally transported to The Medical Center of Southeast Texas before being flown to Texas Children's in Houston.

PORT NECHES — A 2 1/2-year-old boy was taken to Texas Children's Hospital after nearly drowning in a pool at Port Neches home Sunday.

The toddler was originally transported to The Medical Center of Southeast Texas before being flown to Texas Children's in Houston.

Harris County Medical Examiner's Office announced Tuesday that the child had died at the hospital

The near-drowning happened at a home in the 2500 block of 15th Street in according to Port Neches Fire Department Chief Nelson.

From Port Neches Police Department...

On 7/15/2018 at approximately 5:45pm Officers were dispatched to the 2500 blk of 15th st. in reference to a possible drowning of a 3-year-old child. Upon officers’ arrival the PN fire department and EMS were already on the scene working on the child. The child was in an above ground pool with several other children when they noticed the 2 ½ year old child missing. Adults on the scene immediately pulled the child out and began lifesaving efforts. Once fire and EMS arrived they transported the child to the Medical Center of Southeast Texas and then to Galveston. There is no information on the child’s condition at this time. Information will be updated as it becomes available.
