Summer graduates walk at Lamar this weekend

Commencement exercises begin at 10 a.m., and graduates and their families start gathering at 9 a.m. at the Montagne Center.

More than 700 students are set to walk in Lamar’s summer graduation exercises at the end of this week.

Among the 740 graduates are 34 doctoral candidates, according to a news release. Commencement exercises begin at 10 a.m., and graduates and their families start gathering at 9 a.m. at the Montagne Center.

The main speaker is LU alumnus and entrepreneur Anthony George, president and CEO of Nautical Control Solutions.

George has 25 years of experience working in automation, control systems engineering and marine fuel management systems. He founded Nautical Control Solutions in 2006 using his technology, according to the company's website, in addition to starting Control Dynamics International in 1991.

Graduates will begin to gather at 9 a.m. in preparation for the 10 a.m. commencement exercises in which some 740 students, including 34 doctoral candidates, will receive their diplomas.

Expectant graduates and family and friends gathered to congratulate them on achieving their goals, will hear from LU alumnus, entrepreneur and inventor Anthony George.

George has spent 25 years in the fields of automation and control systems engineering and marine fuel management systems. He is currently president and CEO of Nautical Control Solutions, a company he founded based on technology he created.

NCS owns the FuelTrax line of marine fuel management products, for which George holds patents in the U.S., Canada and Europe. FuelTrax is the first, and most advanced, end-to-end, marine fuel measuring, monitoring, and reporting system in the world today.

Before NCS, George founded Control Dynamics International, which managed automation engineering practices in the lumber, food, cement, and oil and gas industries. CDI was sold to a publicly traded engineering company in 2010.

He holds a B.S. in physics with a concentration in electrical engineering and a minor in computer science from Lamar University. He completed Rice University’s Corporate Financial Management Executive Education course in 1999.
