BEAUMONT, Texas — Dozens in the community gathered to participate in the Southeast Texas Foodbank's Farm fest.

Produce and milk at no cost brought the Beaumont community out to the event.

"When we started promoting it, we did not expect a huge turnout, but social media being what it is, it exploded," Southeast Texas Food Bank Executive Director Dan Maher said. "Awareness is out there,"

Among the volunteers were students from Lamar University.

They are participating in Lamar's annual Big Event.

"We're a sorority on campus," Mackenzie Sattler said. "We're Zeta Tau Alpha at Lamar, so especially being Greek life, it's really important to give back to our community and make our presence known."

This is their first time participating.

They told 12News the feeling of helping others in the community is rewarding.

"I love to see the impact it has and give back to the community," Whitney Kieschnick said.

"It's giving back to our community, which we needed after such a bad few years, like Harvey, and it's always good to support local people," said Kennedy Kieschnick.

The food bank said events like Lamar's helped their event run smoothly.

They say it is all about giving back to the community and helping others.

"They're super kids," Maher said. "They have really made this event possible, and that is just a great combination and partnership between Lamar and us the community should celebrate."
