Hundreds of people participate in livestock show at YMBL South Texas State Fair

A Vidor man said he's been raising livestock for six years.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Noah Simpson has been raising livestock for the past six years. He said this is his passion.

"I show lambs, deer, heifers, pigs," he said.

It started back in 2013.

"My sister was doing it before me," Simpson said. "I always enjoyed watching her and I always liked to help."

His sister may have ignited his love, but he said his joy for showing animals brings him back to the YMBL South Texas State Fair each year.

This year, he is hoping to bring home a title.

"I'm here to raise the animals for market, make money and hopefully get a scholarship for it," he said.

There are dozens of others just like Simpson, looking to take home the grand prize.

Livestock organizers say this is a great event for them.

"At this young age, we try to create an open environment for the livestock," Billy Griffin said. "Livestock is the future for this country, actually this world. If we don't have livestock, how are we supposed to eat."

Simpson said it's definitely hard work, but the biggest benefit is getting to do what he loves while meeting friends that enjoy the same things.
