BEAUMONT — Seventy-seven pets in need of homes were adopted around the New Year from Beaumont's animal shelter.
Beaumont Animal Care's New Year's adoption special lowered the adoption fee for all animals to $20.19 from Jan. 3 to Jan. 5. Adoption fees include spay or neuter, microchip, vaccinations, flea prevention and dewormer.
"Thank you to everyone who adopted and helped move Beaumont Animal Care one step closer to becoming a no-kill open-admission animal shelter," the City of Beaumont said in a Facebook post Jan. 7.
Beaumont Animal Care's live-release rate more than doubled over the last four years from 27.5 in 2014 to 61.3 percent in 2017, the city announced in April.

The shelter held many adoption specials in 2018 as part of the initiative to raise the save rate to 90 percent to be considered a no-kill shelter.

Beaumont Animal Care is located at 1884 Pine Street and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday.
