Emergency preparations are underway in several cities and counties.

Hardin County:

Residents in Hardin County can get sand and sand bags at several Hardin County Road and Bridge Departments throughout the area.

  • 1290 Hwy 327 West, Silsbee, TX (409) 385-5501
  • 1315 North Pine Street, Kountze, TX (409) 246-3972
  • 13745 FM 787, Saratoga (936) 274-5411
  • 100 Southland Drive, Lumberton (409) 755-4584

Hardin County Emergency Management coordinators reminded residents "turn around, don't drown."

County Judge Wayne McDaniel said in a news release that the county is prepared to respond when necessary.

"Hardin County and the counties north of us may receive several inches of rain over the weekend, which could cause localized flooding and result in rising water levels of the Neches River, bayous and creeks, which are already above normal," McDaniel said.

"We ask that all citizens, especially those in low-lying areas, continue to monitor current and future weather forecasts," he said. "If you come across a roadway that is covered with water, please do not drive through it."

China and Nome:

Sand and sandbags will be available beginning Friday evening at China City Hall at 717 Broadway Street and the city gym in Nome. Both cities requested sand and sandbags from the Jefferson County Office of Emergency Management Tuesday, Dec. 6 in case of flooding in their area, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

Those sandbags are for China and Nome residents only.

Residents in either area should bring their own shovel and be prepared to fill their own sandbags.
