There was a robbery at La Viva Grocery and Meat Market located at 1043 Stadium Drive in Port Arthur around 1 p.m.

The robber, a male who appeared to be 15 or 16 years old, grabbed a donation jar and ran.

The jar was a fundraiser to raise money for a diabetic child in Mexico who needs insulin to live.

Witnesses and police say the robber fired shots at two citizens as they chased after him but no one was hit.

The witness who chased the man also said he heard the suspect fire more shots after he was out of the sight.

After a brief chase, the subject was apprehended and the money was recovered. He was charged with multiple robberies.

Incident: Aggravated Robbery

On the above date and time, officers from Port Arthur Police Department responded to a theft that just occurred at 1049 Stadium Rd., La Viva Grocery store. During the investigation, officers learned that a subject entered the store and took a donation jar from the cash register counter. Officers received information that the suspect fled on foot out of the store and now being chased by citizens that witnessed the theft. Dispatch received additional information that the suspect fired several rounds at those citizens. As officers arrive on scene and reported that more shots were being fired from the alleyway. Officers were able to locate the subject in the alleyway and after a brief foot chase, the suspect was taken into custody without incident. From the investigation, officers were able to locate money and a handgun (stolen) that was used in the robbery. The suspect was arrested and charged with multiple robberies.
