Playground equipment, parts of Beaumont Athletic Complex to reopen following city council approval

The Tyrell Historical Library will also be opening

BEAUMONT, Texas — It's not just Texas leaders who are taking steps to reopen. In Beaumont, leaders discussed what's next on Tuesday to get back to business.

Beaumont City Council approved on Tuesday to reopen the Beaumont Athletic Complex, city hall and Tyrell Historic Library.

At the athletic complex, tennis courts and volleyball courts can be used. Basketball courts will stay closed due to CDC guidelines for contact sports.

Playground equipment is now permitted to be used, and some council members are citing 'quarantine fatigue' as a primary reason to reopen things up.

City Councilman Randy Feldschau said the shut downs are impacting people's mental health.

"We know that we all want to reopen the community, and we have to do it in a safe and responsible manner. We also know the nation can't stay shut down forever. It is going to cripple us and not only the economy, but emotionally and mentally people are beginning to suffer. At some point I think we have to consider that each individual has to take personal responsibility for their own health."

What about other landmarks like the Julie Rogers Theatre and Jefferson Theatre?

You'll have to wait for classic movie night and to hear the symphony.
