Nederland woman asked to remove offensive shirt at Central Mall

Angela Lebleu doesn't think the shirt that got her in trouble should be a big deal.

PORT ARTHUR — A Nederland woman told 12News that Central Mall's security asked her to remove her offensive shirt or leave last Sunday.

However, Angela Lebleu doesn't think the shirt that got her in trouble should be a big deal.

"I had to use the bathroom real quick and when I came out, they told me I need to turn my shirt inside out or leave," Lebleu said.

The shirt Lebleu wore Sunday has profanity on it, including the "F" word. Lebleu said she purchased the shirt inside the mall several months ago. She said she thinks being told by mall security to remove it or leave, is a bit ironic.

"It can be hanging on display for anyone to see at any time but when you put it on, it's offensive," Lebleu said.

Bruce Wood, the general manger at Central Mall said they can't control what merchandise stores sell, but they can control dress code policy.

The mall's clothing code of conduct requires: "All shoppers dress appropriately and observe all health codes and local law."

The policy also states, "Clothing should not be worn which is obscene or offensive in nature."

The malls code of conduct rules are posted at the entrances of the mall. However, Lebleu still thinks if you buy something, you should be able to wear it.

"I'll still be back, but I'll just make sure to wear another shirt," Lebleu said.
