Nederland family's upstairs bathroom catches fire on Christmas Eve, flames seriously damage home

NEDERLAND — The Nederland Fire Department is asking for prayers after a family's home caught fire on Christmas Eve.

Firefighters responding to the scene said an upstairs bathroom was on fire when they arrived at the house, located in the 600 block of 14th Street.

EMS assisted one of the homeowners who had difficulty breathing, who was treated on scene and later released. The home sustained serious damage, but can be repaired, according to Nederland Fire Department. All firefighters returned safely from the call.

"We urge all homeowners to be very careful with electricity and items or around your home."
