Since then, there have been over 400 comments on social media that were either positive or negative.

One of the comments said “Someone go tell this grandma to raise her grand babies” and another one said “Girl go sit down.”

"Called me ugly and a troll…it showed about 20 different GIFs and inciting a riot so other people would comment off them and say hurtful and harmful things,” said Cornwell.

She will participate in the Mrs. Texas competition in May which focuses on married women who are active in their community.

She was urged by some of her friends to apply for the Mrs. Beaumont position earlier this year.

When she took a photo shoot this afternoon for a tourism advertisement she discussed the importance of raising awareness about cyber bullying.

"There are a lot of bullies in the world, don’t let people who say harmful things hurt you because if you have a positive heart that is full of joy there is no harsh words that can hurt you just hold your head up high and look the other way,” said Cornwell.

According to a Pew Research Study about 40 percent of adults are affected by online harassment with 27 percent of them being called offensive names.

“It’s easy to be tough when you are not in front of someone’s face and are sitting at home and lonely and sad and typing but when you are in front of someone’s face you are not likely to say those things,” said Cornwell.

While several negative comments were posted online there were also several positive ones.

One comment read: “Good luck, so proud of you for following your dreams, the hater’s shame on you.”

Another comment said “Good luck, I wish the best for you.”

Cornwell said her main platform is encouraging women to fight for their dreams but she also wants them to fight negativity.

“You just have to know who you are and I know who I am in Christ so I just look beyond that and hold my head up high,” said Cornwell.

The Mrs. Texas competition will take place on May 3rd through the 5th in Corsicana.
