Gerald Chandler is named the lone finalist for Lumberton ISD superintendent at the Thursday, March 8th. He was chosen by the Lumberton Independent School District Board of Trustees. By law, the Board must now wait 21 days before voting to hire Dr. Chandler. Lumberton ISD is slated to replace retiring Superintendent John Valastro.

In November, the Board hired Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Executive Search Services to direct the search. TASB consultants met with staff and community groups December 14, 2017 to discuss desired characteristics of the new superintendent. The profile developed from these meetings was the yardstick used by the Board and consultants in evaluating the applicants for the position.

Six applicants were initially chosen for interviews. Dr. Chandler has been with Lumberton ISD for fifteen years. He has served as Assistant Superintendent in Lumberton ISD since 2012 and as Acting Superintendent of the district since January 2018.

The vote is scheduled for Thursday, April 5th.
