16-year-old Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School student detained after tweeting shooting threat

Administrators from the school notified the sheriff's office as soon as they were made aware of the post.

A Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School student who allegedly posted a shooting threat on Twitter will spend another seven days in detention.

Following a hearing Thursday morning Orange County Judge Troy Johnson ordered that the 16-year-old male student be detained for another seven days.

He was detained by Orange County deputies and transported to the Minnie Rogers Juvenile Justice Center in Beaumont Wednesday night after he allegedly made a threat against the school on Twitter.

Administrators from the school notified the sheriff's office as soon as they were made aware of the post.

Deputies in Orange County investigated the reported school shooting threat on social media directed at Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School ion Wednesday night.

The Twitter post, allegedly made by an LCM student, included a misspelled racial epithet and read "Shooting up the school tomorrow so watch out n-----."

The timestamp on the post, which was deleted shortly after it was posted, was 7:28 p.m.

Because the post mentioned a "threat of violence" the deputies took the post very seriously and sent detectives to the student's home to speak to him and his parents according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office is urging parents to talk to their children about the seriousness making "threats of any nature under any circumstances" and noted that a terroristic threat can be classified as a class A or B misdemeanor.

A person commits a terroristic threat if a threat to commit violence is communicated with the intent to do any of the following...

1. Cause reaction by officials organized to deal w/emergencies,

2. Place any person in fear of imminent serious bodily injury,

3. Prevent or interrupt the occupation/use of a building,

4. Cause impairment/interruption of public services,

5. Place the public/group in fear of serious bodily injury, OR

6. Influence the conduct /activities of any part of the government.
