Lamar University recognizes 2020 grads on scoreboard, campus display before virtual graduation

The scoreboard was transformed into a slideshow of graduates faces and degree fields.

BEAUMONT, Texas — COVID-19 and the rain have put a damper on Lamar University's graduation plans.

Instead of families watching their graduates walk across the stage, Lamar is holding a virtual graduation Friday at 7 p.m.

But before that ceremony begins, family’s and friends had the opportunity to take pictures with the graduations at Provost Umphrey Station.

The scoreboard was transformed into a slideshow of graduates faces and degree fields.

Stephanie Smith received her Master's in Education Administration.

She said while this is different she is grateful for Lamar's precautions during the pandemic.

1,800 students are graduating this spring semester.

Lamar also placed signs with graduates names and faces around the perimeter of campus.
