Jefferson County trying to decrease illegal game room activities

The Jefferson District Attorney's Office says that they are encouraging citizens to reach out to their local legislators to push for the drafting of the new resolution.

Jefferson County — Last month, the Jefferson County Commissioners Court approved a resolution for the regulation of game rooms, but are still waiting for it to be drafted by the Texas legislature.

The Jefferson County District Attorney's office says that the resolution would put stricter regulations on game rooms.

Last year, the Beaumont Police Department received more than 1,200 service calls to game room locations.

"Make it safer. Most of those game rooms are in residential areas and it's dangerous for the people that live there," said Michelle Simpson, a former Beaumont resident.
