Ubi Caritas hoping to raise money for Imelda repairs at annual 'Date Night Auction'

Their facility on Highland Avenue in the south end of Beaumont took in about a foot of water.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Like so many in Southeast Texas, Ubi Caritas is now recovering from Imelda. Their facility on Highland Avenue in the south end of Beaumont took in about a foot of water. On top of that, almost 150 families who rely on their services lost everything.

The non profit has helped the uninsured and under-insured get medical assistance for more than 20 years. Since 2008, their annual "Date Night Auction" has helped the organization that's helped so  many, keep going.

This year's "11th Annual Date Night Auction" fundraiser will go toward helping those families get back on their feet, and repairing their facility. Zach Stiles, a co-chair for the event, said it's their biggest fundraiser of the year. The auction helps support their efforts in helping the medically under-served and uninsured in southeast Texas, along with dental care and several other programs that empower the moms and youth in our communities.

"It's 20 folks that have been hand-selected, that are civic-minded in our community that raise money for vacation packages," Stiles said.

Those packages will be auctioned off. This year, they've got trips to Nashville, New York, the Bahamas and some local hunting trips up for grabs.

"We're going to blow it out of the water in regards to what the packages were even last year," Stiles said.

Because of Imelda, Stiles said they've had difficulties getting some of their big donors. They're having to repair their own facilities, as well as take care of struggling employees.

"We're making a really really big this year to get new donors and things like that to help out with this fundraiser," Stiles said.

The event will also feature food, drinks, a DJ and dance floor, and a silent auction. They'll be auctioning off things like Astros and Cowboys sports memorabilia, as well as spa days.

"I think giving where you live is very very important, and when you've had an organization like Ubi Caritas that has been on the south end for 20 years, giving back to this community day-in-and-day-out, making sure that people less fortunate are able to afford medical needs, and get their medical needs met, I think it's such a huge deal," Stiles said.

This year's event will be held at the Holiday Inn on Walden Road in Beaumont on October 18th. For the individual dinner, auction and drinks, tickets cost $125. For the auction only, tickets can be purchased for $50. A link can be found on their Facebook event page.
