How would Groves residents spend $4.7 million in Lottery winnings?

A Groves resident received a big pay day after winning $4.7 million from a $50 scratch off ticket. How would you spend the money?

GROVES — A Groves resident claimed a top prizewinning ticket worth $4.777 million in the Texas Lottery® scratch ticket game, Ultimate 7’s. The claimant elected to remain anonymous, but 12News wanted to know how Groves residents would spend the money if their ticket came in.

"I wouldn't be working here anymore," said one employee of the popular dinning establishment, Dairy Queen.

The ticket was actually sold at Citgo Food Mart, located at 2468 Highway 69 N. in Nederland, but that doesn't stop people from the winners home town from dreaming.

"I would invest it in BitCoin and then retire to Spain," said James Gibson, who isn't worried at all about the fluctuation of crypto currency.

But what about those who are too young to play the lottery or might not have bills to worry about?

"I would buy an island," said Mia Melancon, at her afternoon painting class with her brother Jack.

"(I would buy) an underwater tank," said Jack.

Would you remain anonymous like the winner did? Cindy Kreutzer believes she would at least try.

"In a small town like Groves though, if they start spending too much and too much new stuff ends up in their driveway people will know who it is anyway," laughed Kreutzer.

This was the second of three top prizes worth $4.777 million to be claimed in this game. Ultimate 7’s offers more than $142.8 million in total prizes. Overall odds of winning any prize in the game are one in 3.38, including break-even prizes.
