Graduation ceremony plans for Southeast Texas seniors

After a multiple phone calls to districts in the area, we found out most schools are still planning to have a graduation ceremony.

BEAUMONT, Texas — After Gov. Greg Abbott’s big announcement to close schools for the rest of the school year, high school seniors are wondering if they will still be able to walk.

After a multiple phone calls were made to districts in Southeast Texas, we found out most schools are still planning to have a graduation ceremony. What those will look like and when will they happen depends on guidelines from the CDC governor and TEA.

Vidor ISD still plans to hold its graduation ceremony on May 29. But this could change.

Port Arthur ISD hasn't set an exact date yet, but the district is looking to hold a ceremony sometime in June 2020. The district is planning to hold a curbside cap and gown pickup on April 28 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Newton ISD posted on Facebook that the district plans to hold its graduation ceremony on June 26 at 8 p.m.

Nederland ISD plans to have their graduation on May 28 at 7 p.m. at the Ford park arena. 

Silsbee has not nailed anything down just yet. They are waiting to hear from their county leaders, the governor and TEA.

Spurger ISD is holding a cap and gown pick up on Monday, April 27, according to a district Facebook post

Later this month, the commissioner of education is set to give Texas schools guidelines on graduation ceremonies as the districts’ plans remain tentative.
