PORT ARTHUR, Texas — A Port Arthur family is mourning the loss of a 22-year-old mother of two killed in what police called a 'cowardly act of violence.'
Jasmine Newman was shot outside a Port Arthur home while talking with friends early on Sunday, October 20.
Newman was an innocent bystander in the incident according to police.
Her funeral is set for Saturday, November 2, at 11 a.m. at First Sixth Street Baptist Church in Port Arthur. The visitation for the family will be held 9 a.m.-11 a.m. before the service.
The Newman family has asked for the community's support to help cover the cost of the funeral and burial. A GoFundMe account has now raised more than $2,000 toward the family's goal of $5,000 as of nine on Monday night.
Kevin Newman, Jasmine's uncle, says this week has been difficult for the family.
"We just ask that everybody try to help if you can," said Newman. "A little money makes a big difference, we just were not prepared for this."

Port Arthur Police are investigating the shooting, no arrests have been made.
