A federal inmate who authorities say slipped out of the federal prison in Beaumont to get a bag of contraband has been indicted on two counts.
According to a news release from the office of U.S. Attorney Alan R. Jackson, Joshua Randall Hansen, 27, is indicted for escape and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. The two-count indictment was handed up Wednesday.
According to the indictment, on Jan. 24, 2018, officers arrested Hansen near the prison. The indictment says he was heading back to the prison with marijuana and alcohol that he intended to distribute within the compound.
A 12News story published Jan. 25, says Hansen is from Dallas. He is already serving time for a narcotics-related charge.
If convicted on the new charges, Hansen faces up to an additional five years in federal prison.
