BEAUMONT, Texas — ExxonMobil says flaring may be noticeable for several hours on Thursday evening due to maintenance at the Beaumont refinery.

It says the process of safely flaring is an environmentally approved measure and is used to burn hydrocarbons that cannot be processed during a unit shutdown.

This is necessary so personnel can safely work on equipment according to an ExxonMobil Facebook post.

It says its top priority is the safety of its employees and the community during maintenance activities according to the Facebook post.

The post says the company has 'taken steps to ensure that good emission control practices are implemented.'
