BEAUREGARD PARISH, La. — The Beauregard Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating after a school bus driver found a handgun magazine on a bus Thursday while cleaning up after hours.
The school board contacted the sheriff's office and investigators were able to identify the person that had been sitting in the seat where the magazine was found according to a Beauregard Parish Sheriff's Office news release.
On Friday, February 8, detectives interviewed a juvenile DeRidder High School student who admitted to bringing a handgun and two magazines to school on Thursday according to the release.
The juvenile was arrested for one count of carrying a firearm or dangerous weapon by a student or nonstudent on school property according to the release.
The investigation is ongoing and the school board may use further disciplinary action after the investigation according to the release.

On Thursday, February 7, 2019, the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office received information from the Beauregard Parish School Board concerning a handgun magazine that had been found on a school bus after hours as a driver was cleaning up.
The Beauregard Parish School Board immediately contacted the Sheriff’s Office and an investigation into the incident began. Investigators were able to identify the person that had been sitting in the seat where the magazine was found.
On Friday, February 8, 2019, detectives interviewed a juvenile DeRidder High School student, who admitted that he brought a handgun and two handgun magazines to the school on Thursday. After completing the interview, detectives arrested the juvenile for one count of Carrying a firearm or dangerous weapon by a student or nonstudent on school property, at school-sponsored functions, or in a firearm-free zone.
The investigation is on-going and further disciplinary actions by the Beauregard Parish School Board could result at the conclusion of the investigation.
