Man dies after medical emergency, car accident in Orange

Police say he was driving east on Edgar Brown when he appeared to have a medical emergency

ORANGE, Texas — A man has died following a crash in Orange Monday night after police say he had a medical emergency while driving. 

Willie Charles Johnson, 50, had a medical emergency while driving east on Edgar Brown when he hit two other vehicles stopped at an intersection according to a news release from the Orange Police Department. 

Johnson was unconscious and unresponsive when officers got there, and he was unable to be revived according to the release. 

It happened at Strickland Drive and Edgar Brown Drive. 

Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy has been ordered. 

From an Orange Police Department news release: 

On July 27, 2020, at approximately 8:08 P.M., Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Strickland Drive and Edgar Brown in reference to a traffic accident. Upon arrival, Officers observed three vehicles to be involved, a 2018, red in color, Hyundai Elantra, a 2013, gray in color, Dodge Charger and a 2020, silver in color, Jeep Gladiator. The investigation revealed the driver of the red Hyundai, Willie Charles Johnson, 50 years of age, appeared to have had a medical emergency as he was driving east on Edgar Brown. The other two vehicles were stopped at the redlight, facing East. Johnson’s vehicle drove between the Jeep and the Charger, striking both vehicles before coming to rest on the side of the roadway on MacArthur Drive, just east of the intersection of Strickland and Edgar Brown. Johnson was unconscious and unresponsive when Officers arrived. CPR was immediately initiated, but Johnson was unable to be revived. Justice of the Peace for Precinct 3 Judge Dubose-Simonton arrived on scene and pronounced Johnson deceased. Judge Dubose-Simonton ordered an autopsy to be performed and Johnson was transported to the Jefferson County Morge by Shaver’s Mortuary Transportation Service. The investigation is ongoing.
