City of Silsbee prepares to move into new city hall building

The city is expected to be moved in and operating in the new building by mid May.

SILSBEE, Texas — The yarn shop "In the Loop" has been nestled in downtown Silsbee for two years.

"We have everything from local hand dyes to cashmere," business owner Cyndi Fontaine said.

When you walk in, knickknacks line the walls.

You might even find yarn or the owner, Cyndi Fontaine, crocheting in the corner.

"What sets us apart from any other yarn shop is we do a lot of causing crocheting and cause knitting," said Fontaine.

Like every other business, they have to pay their bills. Fontaine is excited about going to the new city hall to pay her water bill.

"Yes, the building was a little outdated, kind of small, so yes, it was time," she said.

The move into a renovated former home healthcare facility will put all city workers under one roof.

"The city hall we were in, we had outgrown," Mayor Jim Willis said. "Our storage was scattered around. Our records were scattered around."

Willis says the new building symbolizes new beginnings, and tt shows growth for the future.

"It's easier access in and out," he said. "There's more parking. Of course, in the council chambers, it will allow the citizens to come to the council meetings."

Business owners like Fontaine said it shows growth.

"It's just vital to all of us," she said. "To our existence, to our school system. To our commerce system. To have the quality of life that we have."

Eventually leading to a better future for Silsbee.
