Beaumont principal makes appearance on ABC, explains changes in education during COVID19 pandemic

The Homer Drive Elementary School Principal Belinda George appeared on national television to talk about the changes Beaumont ISD has made.

BEAUMONT, Texas — She has made headlines for her Facebook live bedtime stories. Now, the principal of Homer Drive Elementary is helping parents get through this difficult time.

Dr. Belinda George was able to share her helpful advice to a national audience Tuesday on ABC.

"Today, I just told parents to rely on the district, rely on the principal, rely on the teachers because it's tough. Everybody is stressing," George said.

It's the new normal for parents and students across the world. Communication and education has all become virtual.

"I can speak for Homer Drive and BISD. Our doors are open for our parents. We want you to call. We want you to ask questions. That's the only way we'll get through this together," George said.

The Homer Drive Elementary School Principal Belinda George appeared on national television to talk about the changes Beaumont ISD has made to get through this tough time.

"Our district has partnered with T-Mobile, and it's an award that they gave us where every kid gets a Mi-Fi hot spot," George said. "It's a Mi-Fi hot spot just for you. To access the internet. If parents call and ask, I can tell them how to set it up. It's very easy."

She also highlighted the meal pick up program, which ensures every student within the district gets fed.

"They are getting 4 meals every day except for Friday," George said.

The real crowd favorite was the acronym for "corona" that Dr. George came up with to help motivate parents.

"The 'C' is for stay calm through all of this," George said.

"The 'O' is for organize. Organize your thoughts. Your thinking processes, all of it.

The 'R' is for rest. Get lots of rest during this time because it can be daunting.

The other 'O' is for organize your life. Right now, we have to rethink how we live.

The 'N' is for navigate your way through this. This is new territory for all of us.

And then the 'A' is for accomplish this because if we do all this and accomplish this, we will beat this disease."

She’s motivating parents and students one virtual call at a time. Dr. George is still reading stories live every Tuesday night on the Homer Drive Facebook for any student who wants to listen.
