Beaumont ISD to hold in-person graduation ceremony for class of 2020

The district plans to honor graduating seniors at the BISD Memorial Stadium early June 2020.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont ISD is making sure their seniors are getting the recognition they deserve.

While some school districts are taking a more distant approach to commencement ceremonies, Beaumont ISD has announced in-person graduation ceremony dates for the class of 2020 seniors.

The Texas Education Agency had previously cancelled all scheduled graduation ceremonies due to the coronavirus outbreak.

As of May 5, the agency will allow outside graduations after June 1, 2020, for any county in the state.

There will be social distancing guidelines in place, according to a release from the district.

BISD Announces Plans for Graduation

Beaumont ISD is excited to announce that official, in-person commencement ceremony dates have been determined for the class of 2020. As a result of guidance from the Texas Education Agency on May 5, 2020, all previously scheduled Diploma Distribution Celebrations will be canceled in lieu of in-person ceremonies.

“Our team has remained committed to ensuring our seniors are honored properly for this large life accomplishment,” said Dr. Shannon Allen, Superintendent. “We were thrilled to make this decision following the recent release of guidance from the Texas Education Agency.”

BISD will be honoring graduating seniors at the BISD Memorial Stadium on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, June 3, 2020 -- Early College High School
  • Thursday, June 4, 2020 -- Beaumont United High School
  • Friday, June 5, 2020 -- West Brook High School

More details involving graduation will be forthcoming and will be subject to change provided the COVID-19 restrictions set in place at the time. However, please be prepared to experience social distancing guidelines that will result in limitations in the number of guests that may be allowed to attend.

As the stadium is an outdoor venue, several backup dates have been selected in the event of inclement weather:

  • Saturday, June 6, 2020
  • Monday, June 8, 2020
  • Tuesday, June 9, 2020

For loved ones who cannot attend in-person, the district will be live streaming the entire event to watch from home.

“While we know how important this event is to our students and their families, we must remember that the health of our community is our top priority,” said Allen. “We are prepared to follow all guidance provided by state and local officials to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone involved.”

Please be on the lookout for more information from the district regarding graduation details and guidance.
