“It’s a huge party in honor of Down syndrome awareness.”

BEAUMONT, Texas — The 8th annual Beaumont Buddy Walk returns to the Beaumont Event Center Great Lawn this fall to help raise awareness and funds for programs that benefit people with Down syndrome and their families.

The Buddy Walk welcomes people of all ages and abilities to walk to the tunes of DJ Mark Fiorenza this Saturday, Oct. 26 at 9 a.m.

The walk will feature a “PossAbilities” showcase that will display the many talents and accomplishments of those with Down syndrome.

“It’s a huge party in honor of Down syndrome awareness,” said event co-chair Sarah Hardin.

Participants can win prizes for the top fundraising teams, play in bounce houses and enjoy other children’s activities.

Last year, the Beaumont Buddy Walk raised more than $100,000 to benefit services for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families in Southeast Texas.

The goals of the event are to "promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome and to positively influence local and national policy and practice."
